Future college football Hall of Famer Don Nehlen brought a breath of fresh air to WVU—as well as a new logo and color scheme—in his first year at the helm of the program in 1980. Over the next twenty years at West Virginia, he became the winningest coach in Mountaineer history, and the “flying WV” remains on the football helmets to this day. In the 1980s you could find Coach Nehlen walking the Mountaineer Field sidelines in a classic block West Virginia pullover, although probably not as soft as the comfy retro crewneck you see here.
