UNM Lobos Leaping Wolf Vintage Tee
Like many schools with animal mascots, New Mexico attempted to bring a live lobo to campus for athletic events in the 1920s. Instead of sourcing a wolf from a zoo, however, a government trapper caught a wild wolf to serve as New Mexico’s mascot. As most of these early live mascot stories go, the program was discontinued– this time, because the wolf bit a child.
