Roll Out the Carpet Retro WVU Basketball Tee
Fred Schaus, former All-American player at West Virginia, started a tradition of “rolling out the carpet” for player introductions when he became the head coach in 1955. Mountaineers even warmed up with a gold and blue basketball before games to add to fan excitement. After a brief hiatus in the late 1960s, the tradition returned under Coach Gale Catlett in 1978 and has been a highlight of Mountaineer game days ever since. “Now let’s roll out the carpet and bring on the Mountaineers!”
