While the interlocked “OU” mark is practically synonymous with the university and its sports teams, it wasn’t formally introduced as a primary logo for the Sooners until 1966. That year, the football team debuted the proto-version of the famous logo – that version was rounder and less thick, as opposed to the bolder, varsity-type version we know and love today.
