Northern Arizona had long gravitated toward a lumberjack as the school’s mascot, but finally made it official in 1964. In 1968, the school debuted its first official NAU Lumberjacks logo (seen here!), which remained in use until 1987. Eventually, he was nicknamed “Louie,” named after the famous pop song “Louie, Louie.”
