New Mexico State Aggies Retro Tee
Each school with the “Aggies” nickname puts its own spin on things, and New Mexico State opted for a quintessentially Western take. The Aggies originally attempted designs that resembled masked cartoon crusaders, but none stuck. Eventually, though, the students were inspired by the legend of Frank “Pistol Pete” Eaton, and personified their Aggie as a heroic cowboy. NMSU’s Pistol Pete debuted in 1973 as a member of the cheer squad, and used to even ride in on a horse named Keystone.
