Herbie Husker is a corn-fed son of the Midwest, and represents the Nebraska Cornhuskers with pride. Prior to Herbie, the university tried other mascots to help represent the scarlet and cream, including an oversized mascot named Mr. Big Red/Harry Husker and a figure simply known as Corncob Man. Herbie fit the bill of being appropriately sized (aka, not 10 feet tall like Harry) and more symbolic, while also maintaining a high dose of school spirit.
