The same year James Madison won their football national championship, Duke Dog was so close to winning JMU another title against Montana. As a finalist in the 2004 Capital One Mascot Bowl, Duke Dog finished 11-0 in his mascot matchups throughout the season. Despite this perfect record, a panel of judges selected the University of Montana’s Monte to win the Mascot Bowl. Because of this, future Mascot Bowl winners were solely based on popular voting. Ask any of us, though -- we think Duke Dog earned the throne.
