Vintage-Inspired Iowa State Jack Trice Bomber Jacket

In partnership with Iowa State, this commemorative jacket honors the life of Jack Trice. Trice, who died from injuries sustained in his second-ever college football game against Minnesota, was Iowa State's first African-American varsity athlete.

The defensive lineman and student of the game knew the importance he held as Iowa State's first Black athlete. In a letter he wrote the night before the Minnesota game, Trice wrote from his segregated hotel room: "The honor of my race, family, and self is at stake. Everyone is expecting me to do big things. I will!"

TheĀ university designed a logo composed of five vertical lines, based onĀ the jerseys Trice and the 1923 team wore. The design is a symbol of Trice's legacy and the enduring fight for racial equality, as Iowa State football commemorates 100 years since his passing.
