Hokies "Skipper" Hoodie

"Skipper" the cannon is fired by the Virgina Tech Corps of Cadets at every Virginia Tech home football game, both in pre-game festivities and after every Hokies score. The tradition dates back to 1963, when a group of cadets created the cannon for the rivalry game against Virginia Military Institute. President John F. Kennedy's was a Skipper in the Navy, and was also a title for the highest rank in the Corps of Cadets at the time. With the dedication of the cannon occurring after Kennedy's assassination, the name Skipper was chosen.
